Course Overview
The QUALIFI Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate is a vocational qualification designed to provide learners with the knowledge, skills and behaviours expected within adult health and social care roles.
The programme develops practical skills for a career in adult social care and covers key areas including person-centred care, communication, safeguarding, health and safety, mental health, dementia, learning disability, autism, infection prevention and professional responsibilities.
The qualification is accredited on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) and has the Qualification Accreditation Number 610/4201/8. It consists of 36 credits, with a Total Qualification Time of 360 hours and 252 Guided Learning Hours.
Eligibility
The qualification is designed for individuals working in adult social care who have responsibility for providing person-centred, values-driven care and support to people accessing care services.
Applicants should:
- Be working in an adult social care environment.
- Have responsibility for providing person-centred care and support.
- Typically work under the direction of a manager or supervisor.
- Be over 19 years of age to complete the qualification.
QUALIFI recommends that learners complete their employer-specific induction and mandatory training before starting the qualification. However, an employer may decide that the qualification can be completed alongside induction and mandatory training.
The qualification does not replace employer-specific induction or mandatory training. Approved centres are responsible for assessing whether an applicant is capable of successfully completing the programme and meeting the requirements of the qualification.

Mandatory Units
1. Understand Own Role
This unit develops an understanding of a learner’s responsibilities and accountability within their role in adult social care. Learners explore agreed ways of working, professional standards, working relationships and how to work effectively in partnership with others.
2. Personal Development
This unit focuses on identifying personal learning and development needs within a social care role. Learners consider opportunities for professional development, sources of support and the development of an appropriate personal development plan.
3. Duty of Care
Learners develop an understanding of duty of care and how it applies within health and social care practice. The unit also considers dilemmas relating to duty of care and appropriate responses to complaints, comments, incidents, errors and near misses.
4. Equality, Diversity, Inclusion, and Human Rights
This unit develops an understanding of equality, diversity, inclusion and human rights within health and social care. Learners consider actions that can reduce inequality, promote inclusion and help ensure that care services are fair and accessible to everyone.
5. Work in a Person-centred Way
Learners explore the principles and values that underpin person-centred care. The unit considers how individuals can be supported to maintain their identity, self-esteem, spiritual wellbeing and overall wellbeing while remaining actively involved in their care.
6. Communication
This unit develops an understanding of effective communication and confidentiality in health and social care. Learners explore how to respond to individual communication and language needs, wishes and preferences using appropriate methods, aids and technologies.
7. Privacy and Dignity
Learners develop an understanding of the principles that underpin privacy and dignity in care. The unit considers how individuals can be supported to maintain autonomy and independence and remain involved in decisions and choices concerning their care.
8. Nutrition and Hydration
This unit introduces learners to food safety, nutrition and hydration within health and social care. Learners consider how to support individuals in accessing healthy, nutritious and sustainable food and drink while respecting their individual needs and preferences.
9. Awareness of Mental Health and Dementia
Learners develop an understanding of the needs and experiences of people living with mental health conditions or dementia. The unit also considers relevant legal frameworks and the person-centred approaches that underpin good practice.
10. Adult Safeguarding
This unit develops an understanding of the principles of safeguarding adults within social care. Learners explore how to minimise the risk of abuse and understand the appropriate actions to take where abuse of an adult is suspected.
11. Safeguarding Children
Learners develop awareness of safeguarding children within the context of adult social care. The unit covers signs and indicators of child abuse and the appropriate action to take when abuse of a child is suspected.
12. Health, Safety, and Principles of Basic Life Support
This unit develops an understanding of responsibilities relating to health, safety and wellbeing in health and social care. Learners also consider how to respond to accidents and sudden illness and understand the principles and appropriate application of basic life support within the limits of their competence.
13. Handling Information
Learners develop an understanding of the principles involved in handling and managing information within health and social care. The unit covers accurate record keeping and the appropriate response to data breaches or situations where agreed information-handling procedures have not been followed.
14. Infection Prevention and Control
This unit develops an understanding of infection, including its causes and the chain of infection. Learners consider the importance of cleanliness, infection prevention procedures and the appropriate use of personal protective equipment to prevent and reduce infection risks.
15. An Awareness of Learning Disability and Autism
Learners develop an understanding of the needs and experiences of people with a learning disability and autistic people. The unit also considers relevant legal frameworks and person-centred approaches that support appropriate and effective care practice.
Written Assignments
All units within the qualification are internally assessed through written assignment. Assessments are internally marked by the QUALIFI approved centre and are subject to external quality assurance by QUALIFI.
Assessment tasks are designed, wherever possible, to reflect realistic work-related situations. Learners may be required to draw upon organisational information, case studies, workplace experience or professional discussion when completing their assessment activities.
Some assessment tasks also include a practical component requiring observation by an assessor. Where skills-based assessment is required, direct observation is expected to be the principal source of evidence.
Learners must demonstrate achievement of all learning outcomes and assessment criteria across all 15 mandatory units to achieve the qualification. The overall grading system for the qualification is Pass/Fail.

Successful completion of the QUALIFI Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate enables learners to progress to:

- Other related higher-level qualifications
- Employment in an associated profession
